Pleasant Slumber and Dreamy Sleep...

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Paul says that there is no need for anything to be written as to at what point will the Day of the Lord will occur. For we full well know that it will come as suddenly as a thief in the night, as someone woken suddenly from their pleasant slumber and dreamy sleep. People will be living in the comfort of their dreams, in pursuit of their goals and living lives in darkness and in accordance to their own will, when suddenly they will be standing before the judgment of God where there is no escape.

But we who are the children of God are standing in His presence now in Christ and living in anticipation of that one day when Christ returns. So let us not go on as the world does pursuing the things of this world while slumbering in darkness and dreaming of things eternal, all the while in ignorance of their sudden and certain call before the Lord.

Now that we know for whom we are called and the purpose of our present being, let us walk in the light and worthy of the gospel in faith and love for the sake of Christ. As the Father has raised the Son so have we been raised with Him and stand together in Him. Therefore as we are in Him so we will always be together with Him, so that whether we live presently in the body or apart from it in death, we will nevertheless always live in Him.

Let us always be reminded and encourage the brethren that though we die, yet we live. Nothing can remove us from His hand and He will never lose those who have been given to Him by the Father.
